Birth date
Usually enough to identify the Sun sign when the solar position is safely inside one zodiac sign across the date window.
Sun sign calculator
Find the tropical zodiac sign occupied by the Sun for your birth date. Most birthdays can be resolved safely without an exact time because the Sun remains in the same sign across the full supported date window. Near a sign change, AstroZora does not force the birthday through a fixed cusp table: it asks for the birth time and birthplace needed to calculate the exact solar position.
Quick answer
Here “zodiac sign” means your tropical Sun sign: the 30-degree zodiac section containing the Sun at birth. A date-only result is returned only when the Sun stays in the same sign across a conservative window for that civil date. If the Sun can cross a sign boundary, the result remains unresolved until more precise birth details are available.
What you need
The calculator should not create unnecessary form friction for ordinary dates, but it must ask for enough information to resolve a real sign change.
Usually enough to identify the Sun sign when the solar position is safely inside one zodiac sign across the date window.
Needed when the Sun changes signs during the relevant date window and a precise birth moment must decide the result.
Provides the historical timezone for the recorded local birth time so a boundary-date calculation resolves the correct UTC moment.
How it works
The production endpoint reads the Sun from the same ephemeris layer used by the natal engine. It can return an exact result from time and place, a date-safe result when the sign is stable, or a boundary-uncertain result when the available information cannot distinguish the adjacent signs. Exact solar degree is withheld unless an exact moment supports it.
Read the AstroZora methodologyAccuracy & uncertainty
Time-sensitive angles and houses are never presented as exact when the birth time is unknown.
Birthplace data is resolved to an IANA timezone so historical offsets and daylight-saving transitions can be handled explicitly.
Results are designed to expose zodiac, house-system, ephemeris and timezone-version details for reproducibility.
Reading example
Imagine the Sun entering Aries during March 20 in a particular year. Someone born before the ingress has the Sun in Pisces; someone born after it has the Sun in Aries. A fixed “March 20 = Pisces” or “March 20 = Aries” table cannot resolve both births. The actual solar longitude at the birth moment can.

In this calculator, yes. “Zodiac sign” refers to the tropical sign occupied by the Sun at birth.
The familiar date ranges are useful summaries, but the Sun crosses each 30-degree sign boundary at a specific moment that can land at different local times from year to year.
The Sun occupies one tropical sign at an exact instant. If your birth time is unknown and the Sun changed signs that day, AstroZora shows the two possibilities rather than calling the result a blended sign.
AstroZora V1 uses the tropical zodiac. A sidereal or Vedic calculation uses a different reference framework and can return a different sign.
